Passion
So, I was walking down the street, and I saw this guy vehemently convincing a light post of something. Okay, maybe that statement isn't true, but passion is an interesting thing. Sometimes, we are passionate about something that isn't tangible, or something that other people don't believe in. Sometimes we are passionate about something that everyone else is passionate about, like money. When it boils down to it, we're all passionate about something. Some of us are even passionate about how apathetic toward everything we are. I used to be that guy, but when it came down to the nitty gritty, all I wanted was something to work toward. Even on those days where I just can't seem muster up the strength to get out of bed and do something productive, I get passionate about those shamefully pleasurable Netflix binges. Since it would appear you and I have these deep-seeded primordial instincts to be passionate about something, why not be passionate about something that makes you happy?! Or, even better, be devoted to discovering that which makes you happy!
For me, it's the little things in life that make me happy. More often than not, those little things become the biggest parts of my life! When I walk outside in the morning after my daily meditation, to be followed by my daily coffee and cigarette, I look to my right and see the base of the Santa Rosa mountains which reach up to connect with the San Jacinto Mountain range. Looking out to my left, I see the base of the San Gorgonio mountain as it turns into rolling hills which connect to the beautiful Coachella Valley, yes THAT Coachella ha-ha. When I look behind me, I see a relatively small hill which at the top has a cross that lights up at night, and, if I were to hike up the trail, would be accompanied by a Yin-Yang symbol on the ground. The sky is blue, maybe one or two clouds in the sky, and the temperature is about 65 degrees. Life is beautiful! I used to complain about living in this valley, and complain a lot. Even in the hundred-something degree heat during the summer, there's something I can find to be happy about now.
I do have multiple passions, one being writing, but I think my favorite one is indubitably (undoubtedly!) finding happiness. Side note, I just recently learned that word, indubitably. It sounds funny, but it's really cool to use in random conversations! Anyway, I do like finding the silver linings in my life, even when things get tough, but hey, how tough can it be going to college and living. It really isn't if you aren't looking for things to make it hard! So, how do you find happiness? What are your passions? Even if it's being as lethargic as humanly possible, which is quite the feat to attempt! Let me know, because I'd love to!
